This handmade, 100% alpaca wool garment is completely original. The traditional ruana is a type of poncho with an opening in front that lets you cross the ends over the shoulders.
This one starts with the traditional ruana but it joins under the arms to become original sleeves that resemble the wings of the butterfly. The versatility of this garment is wonderful because, besides having an extended neck that you can shape the way you want, it converts into a hood.
The other thing you should know is that the Butterfly ruana comes in mottled colors because two strands of different colored yarn are used.
Alpaca is unique because it is lightweight and soft to the touch, so we are sure you will like to wear this lovely wrap.

I live in California, USA. I am 5'6", 120# and purchased the brown color, size 1 (sm/med). The color brown is mixed with a subtle pink, which is nice. The size 1 would cover a larger person easily, but hangs nicely, and isn't as complicated as it looks in the photo, just comfortable and the arms are sewn to create loose short sleeves. The front will cross to keep you warm and covered. I love it, it's real wool, which is hard to find these days as everything is made in China with artificial yarns. I appreciate the craft of this sweater and imagine that I will have for many years. Thank you.
