The well-known Venezuelan Cuatro is an instrument used in Latin America. Wherever Venezuelan, Mexican or Colombian folklore reaches, there must be a cuatro to live up the party.
This instrument has four strings that are named (from left to right): cuarta (fourth), segunda (second), primera (first) and tercera (third). Some prefer to tune it a, d, f#, b and others g, c, e, a.
Traditional tuning:
The fourth string when open is tuned to A = 440.
The second or D string is tuned to the 4th string played on the fifth fret.
The first or F# string is tuned to the 2nd string played on the fourth fret.
Finally the 3rd or B string is tuned to the 4th played on the second fret.
