These homespun skeins of alpaca wool are spun completely by hand with the help of a top. Given the artisan process, the colors are natural, and no chemical dyes have been used. The tension is irregular when compared with industrial spun wool.
Alpaca wool is one of the warmest and softest in the world. Although it is fine and light, it is three times stronger and seven times warmer than sheep’s wool. It makes a high quality product that, besides keeping you warm, will keep you dry.
The lanolin in sheep’s wool is not present in alpaca wool. This chemical that is secreted by sheep is the main cause for skin irritation and allergies in knitted products. Since lanolin is not in alpaca wool, it is hypoallergenic, comfortable and soft, ideal for baby’s sensitive skin.
It is also a wool that is fun to work and gives free rein to your imagination.
